Multiple model validations

I am trying to use the wizard with a form with multiple models. I have the wizard in model1, which is linked to model2, yet only model1 gets validated, model2 always validates as true, even when it should fail.
I am using $this->Model1->Model2->validates() to do the check
and in my view the forms are constructed with model2.0.field1.
The validations works fine when not using the wizard component, but I cant seem to work out what I am doing wrong.
